OSI Group President David McDonald

David McDonald was born and raised in Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelors Degree in Animal Science. He started his career at OSI Group as Project Manager and worked his way up over the years to become President, a position he currently holds. He’s also held the position of Chairman of the North American Meat Institute; he is currently the Director of the OSI International Foods in Australia and a member of OSI Group’s Board of Directors. The OSI Group is a privately held corporation with headquarters in Aurora, Illinois. They operate in 17 countries with more than 50 facilities.
The OSI group carries out large scale global operations and as such, it is imperative that there’s a smooth flow across the board from the ground up. Mr. McDonald has managed to maintain and exceed expectations by ensuring key employees have the necessary experience and expertise that is crucial in the global market. He also makes sure they have the necessary offices and facilities around the world, essential components of managing activities in America and abroad.
An example of their overseas activities and McDonald’s leadership is the acquirement of Baho Food and its subsidiaries in Germany and Netherlands. Baho Food is a Dutch company specializing in deli meat and processed food products. This move gives the group a wider presence in Europe and compliments their processing strengths.
OSI has also been trying to expand its presence in China as they have the largest consumer market worldwide. They now have 10 facilities in China producing poultry and will soon be the largest poultry producer in the nation. OSI’s China operations are servicing industry giants Subway, Burger King, Starbucks, Papa Johns and McDonald’s, among others.
OSI Group is constantly launching, expanding or planning new facilities. Including recent endeavors in China, they broke ground on facilities in Poland and India in 2012. They expanded on facilities in Illinois and Hungary during that same time period. The $25 million addition in Hungary increased their production capacity of processed chicken products more than threefold.
The Group is active in product development as well. OSI partners with clients on products needed to grow their business and that leads to partnering with suppliers to achieve a satisfactory outcome. They are also involved with food safety and quality on a regular basis. OSI’s approach is that the partnering process and early engagement is invaluable in terms of satisfying and fulfilling consumers’ needs, which in turn is what will make OSI most valuable to them.
