Anthony Petrello is the CEO of Nabors Industries, the largest land-based gas and oil drilling company on the planet. In 2014, Nabors Industries made him America’s highest paid CEO with a compensation package of $68.2 million. This was not a wealthy company idly lavishing its golden boy leader born with a silver spoon in his mouth with undeserved rewards. Anthony Petrello earned every penny of that money through his hard work and amazing accomplishments. The company was founded in 1952, when Pretrello was hired they had recently filed bankruptcy. Under Anthony Petrello’s leadership, they went on to make the largest, most lucrative deals in their history.
Facing and overcoming challenges is nothing new to Anthony Petrello. He’s from a working-class Newark neighborhood in New Jersey plagued with poor schools and little academic support. But Anthony Petrello studied on his own for hours each day to master complex mathematical processes like differential calculus and Ph.D.-level linear algebra and higher mathematics. Petrello’s hard work paid off and he got a full scholarship to Yale University where he studied under famed mathematician Serge Lang. Anthony Petrello earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics. He then got a law degree from Harvard Law School.
Anthony Petrello was a hardworking young attorney when he was hired by internationally known law firm Baker & McKenzie in 1986. His incredible work ethic and natural intelligence led to Petrello quickly becoming managing partner of the New York office. In 1991, impressed with his work, Nabors Industries hired Anthony Petrello as their chief operating officer. He immediately set about improving the company’s fortunes leaving bankruptcy behind. Petrello became among America’s most capable business leaders. He brokered deals that made Nabors Industries billions of dollars annually.
Over the past 25 years Anthony Petrello has made deals and put systems in place that have made Nabors Industries billions in profits. Petrello helped to create hundreds of thousands high-paying jobs at Nabors Industries and received a series of promotions that led him being named president and CEO. To help as many people as possible and share his good fortune, Anthony Petrello and his wife give millions to charity each year. They donated $7 million to Texas Children’s Hospital and helped the hospital raise about $200 million to build and staff a world-class neurological research and treatment center for children.
